FTA Launches Effort to Improve Senior Transportation

Dec. 21, 2015

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has opened a technical assistance center that will offer guidance and support to transportation providers, advocacy groups and individuals to help expand travel options and promote the availability of FTA funding that improves mobility for older adults and individuals with disabilities.

The need for accessible transportation continues to grow in the U.S. Our over-65 population is projected to increase by 77 percent by the year 2045, and about one-third of people over age 65 has a disability.

The National Aging and Disability Transportation Center (NADTC) will encourage specialized transportation services that maximize the reach of FTA’s Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities grant program and other transit investments.
