RTC Holds Food for Fares

Dec. 9, 2015

The 23rd Annual Food for Fare will take place on Dec. 10-11. All RTC transit services will offer free rides with a donation of a non-perishable, non-expired food items instead of paying a regular fare. Last year, transit riders donated nearly three tons of food benefitting the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. “One in four kids does not know where their next meal is coming from,” stated Jocelyn Lantrip, director of marketing and communications for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. “We are very thankful for the generosity of the RTC and its riders,” she added.

Even those who may not ride transit can also participate in Food for Fare by dropping off food donations to any coach operator at any of the 1000+ bus stops throughout the RTC transit network. “The RTC values the long-standing partnership with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and the opportunity to help make a difference for so many in our community,” RTC Executive Director Lee Gibson said. The Food Bank of Northern Nevada helps more than 103,000 people in the community each month.
