VIA Metropolitan Transit announced VIA’s Holiday Special on the Blue Route and invites the community to leave the driving to them this season.
VIA is proud to offer a new transportation choice with extended hours and service area that delivers riders to must-see landmarks and attractions, shops and restaurants from Southtown to Pearl, and several holiday events. The special route reflects Via’s commitment to offering enhanced services and amenities to its customers and the community.
VIA’s Holiday Special on the Blue Route began service on Nov. 27, and will continue through Jan. 2. The modified version of the Downtown Blue Circulator Route connects Southtown to Pearl via Downtown in holiday-themed hybrid buses. VIA’s Holiday Special provides service every 15 minutes along the corridor, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and weekends from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
“VIA is proud to offer the community and their families and guests a new option to travel during the holidays to visit many local landmarks and attractions,” said VIA President/CEO Jeffrey C. Arndt. “We encourage riders to give VIA’s Holiday Special a try and enjoy the heart of San Antonio from the comfort of our hybrid fleet.”
Attractions along the route include the Blue Star Arts Complex, La Villita, Alamo Plaza, the San Antonio Museum of Art, the Tobin Center, Pearl and points in between. The modified route features three new temporary stops, and an extended daily operation until 11 p.m., providing extended coverage during the busy holiday season. The northern loop of the route has been modified to travel down Augusta Street, Brooklyn Avenue, and Broadway to the vicinity of Pearl.
The fare is $1.20 until Dec. 31, and $1.30 beginning Jan. 1. Daily passes are also available on this route, and will be $4 until Dec. 31. Beginning Jan. 1, the cost of the daily pass will be reduced to $2.75 with VIA’s 2016 fare restructuring. Reduced fares are available for children ages 5 to 11, and seniors age 62 and older. Children, age 4 and under, ride free.
