Stinson Bus Garage STM is One of the 'Project of the Year' in Quebec
At the Gala Elixir of PMI-Montreal, the project STM Stinson bus garage was awarded the prize for Project of the Year in the category "Construction and Engineering." These awards, presented annually by the grouping of project management professionals highlight the superior performance of project managers in different areas of expertise, particularly with respect to compliance with the budget and schedule.
A unique and sustainable project has been operational since January, the Transit Centre Stinson welcomes 200 regular buses and 100 articulated buses to ensure their maintenance, refueling and storage. More than 700 employees work there. Fruit of a work integrated approach involving all sectors of the STM, the project brings together the best sustainable practices in a building of 38,000 m2.
Realized over a period of two years, the project has been concluded in accordance with the scope and schedule planned, and this in under budget by $ 165 million. Fast construction methods, an integrated, multidisciplinary design, and exemplary stakeholder involvement are all factors that have contributed to the success of the project and making it a flagship project for future initiatives within the STM.
Today LEED Gold-certified, the Centre is the most sustainable building of the housing stock of the STM and the first building of its kind to achieve such certification in Quebec. System integration at the forefront notably allows a reduction of 60 percent of energy consumption compared to other transportation centers.
The center is also distinguished by the importance that has been given to its design and architecture. There is a large green roof covering 8000 m2, a football field and a half. The particular layout of the building, particularly with the internal circulation bus, ensures more efficient operations while providing employees with a great place to work and registering harmoniously into the urban fabric.
