Mountain Metropolitan Transit has installed three new ticket vending machines giving customers more options to purchase bus passes. The new machines have been installed at the Citadel Mall transfer center, the Voyager transfer center and Pikes Peak Community College Centennial Campus. With the addition of these three machines there are now five locations where customers can purchase bus passes. Ticket vending machines have been in place at the Downtown Terminal and the El Paso County Citizens Service Center since 2013. The machines accept cash and credit or debit cards.
Providing pre-pay bus passes is convenient for customers and helps speed up the boarding process thereby improving system performance and reliability. Smart cards will be the next step in achieving an efficient, cashless system. With ticket vending machines positioned throughout the community, Mountain Metropolitan Transit is poised to transition to smart card technology. Smart cards can be reloaded, from the ticket vending machines. Using smart card technology for fare collection can benefit both customers and operators; saving time, adding convenience and more flexible ticketing.
