Embark Connects Community to Health Services

Oct. 19, 2015

With cold and flu season around the corner, Embark is teaming up with community organizations to provide health services and flu vaccines to the public. The free community health fair will be held Oct. 23 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Downtown Transit Center.

“By partnering with local organizations we are able to bring vital services directly to our customers and the community,” said Jason Ferbrache, Embark’s administrator.

Some of the services being provided at this year’s event include; flu vaccinations, dental screenings, diabetes risk tests, and blood pressure checks.

“Providing transportation for our customers to vital health care services is part of our mission each day” said Ferbrache.  “This event, which would not be possible without our great community partners, allows us to bring health services to them.”

The seasonal flu vaccines offered by the Oklahoma City-County Health Department (OCCHD) is one of the events big draws. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention recommend annual flu shots for everyone over six months of age.

“The Embark health fair extends our reach and resources to people who aren’t able to come to our facility. The more people we’re able to vaccinate, the more protection our community will have against the spread of the flu,” said Tiffany Elmore, OCCHD’s administrator of Clinical Services.

Back again this year, is Delta Dental’s MobileSmiles unit providing free dental screenings, as well as Captain Supertooth. Both will be on-hand to provide oral health education and information about free and low-cost options for dental care.

“Through our MobileSmiles partnership program with the Oklahoma Dental Foundation, our organizations work to break down barriers to dental care access,” said Terrisa Singleton, director of the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Oral Health Foundation. “The Embark health fair reminds people of the importance of good oral health and informs them of the free and low-cost options available.”

Organizations participating in Embark’s free health fair include: Buy For Less, Community Health Centers, Inc., Mobile Smiles Unit – Delta Dental & Oklahoma Dental Foundation, Heartline Oklahoma, Neighborhood Services Organization, Oklahoma State Health Department, Oklahoma City-County Health Department and Oklahoma City Indian Clinic.
