Looking for a career that is both rewarding and offers great wages and benefits? If so, TCAT staff will be on hand in a series of job fairs at Green Street Station, to meet and greet potential candidates to become bus operators or mechanics.
The job fairs will be from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Oct. 15; from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 20; and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 21. Refreshments will be provided. No reservations necessary.
TCAT has openings for both bus operators and mechanics and offers competitive wages and excellent benefits, to include a generous retirement plan.
“This is a great opportunity, particularly for newcomers to the work force, to make a solid family-sustaining living without having to work two or more jobs,” noted TCAT Human Resources Assistant Sara Persons. “At our job fairs, staff will answer your questions, provide applications and even accept applications on site.”
Those interested in becoming bus operators have to be at least 21, but are not required to have professional driving experience; TCAT will train selected candidates in a comprehensive six-week training program and even help those selected obtain the appropriate licensing to drive a bus. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a clean driving record and valid license, pass a pre-employment drug test and a state Department of Transportation physical examination. Starting wages for bus operators begin at $18.53 an hour, which begin the first day of training.
Those interested in becoming mechanics must be at least 18 years and meet the same criteria as bus operators plus have three years’ experience working on diesel engines in a heavy equipment environment. TCAT will also train selected mechanics to obtain appropriate licensing to drive buses, which they are required to do for testing and moving buses in and surrounding TCAT’s facility. Wages for mechanics begin at $21.05 an hour, which also begin the first day of training.
