Two Cincinnati Metro Employees Get Star Award

Sept. 16, 2015

Metro Maintenance employee Charlene Brown and street service Supervisor JoDawna Miles were recognized by Metro’s CEO with a Star Award Sept. 15 for their quick response in what may have helped save a Metro passenger’s life.

On Aug. 31, maintenance employee Brown was dispatched for a roadcall when she noticed a passenger who was disoriented. She and Miles suspected a medical condition and called for emergency assistance. The EMTs discovered that the passenger’s blood sugar level was at a dangerous level and was taken for medical care.

For their quick thinking and actions that may have saved the passenger’s life, Metro CEO Dwight Ferrell presented Brown and Miles with the CEO’s Star Award during the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority Board meeting on Sept. 15.

“We’re grateful that Charlene and JoDawna were able to recognize the medical distress signs of the passenger and seek immediate help, as their sensitivity and judgment may have very well saved the gentleman’s life,” Ferrell said. “Every day our employees serve the community and outstanding actions such as these deserve recognition.”

Brown has been a Metro employee for eight years and was a Maintenance Employee of the Year finalist in 2014. Miles has been with Metro for 12 years and previously served as a Metro operator for five years.

The Star Award for “Service That Attracts Recognition” is a selective award presented by Metro’s CEO and acknowledges and rewards employees who demonstrate exemplary service to Metro and the community.
