John Kuprenas Joins STV as SVP and Deputy Director

Distinguished engineer and program manager John Kuprenas, D.Eng., P.E., CCM, has joined STV as a senior vice president and deputy director of the firm's construction management division. He will report directly to Steve Pressler, P.E., executive vice president and chief operating officer of the construction management division, and will be based in the firm's New York office.

Kuprenas will assist in the overall management and growth of the construction management division. He brings more than 25 years of international experience in overseeing large-scale projects in both the public and private sectors. He has provided program management services for $20 billion of new construction and modernization for more than 130 schools for the Los Angeles Unified School District; the construction of the $1.2 billion King Khalid Medical City in Dammam, Saudi Arabia; and the $6 billion airport capital improvement program for the Los Angeles World Airports.

Prior to joining STV, Kuprenas served as president of a Sacramento-based construction management firm where he was successful in winning more than 70 contracts and oversaw unprecedented growth. In addition, he served as vice president, regional manager and project director of the firm, leading its efforts in construction and program management of private sector and municipal clients for educational, health care, transportation and institutional projects.

Kuprenas co-authored the book, "101 Things I Learned in Engineering School" as part of the "101 Things I Learned …" series, and published several trade articles. He holds a doctorate in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and has lectured as adjunct faculty at the University of Southern California. He also earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

Kuprenas is past president of the Southern California chapter of the Construction Management Association of America, a certified construction manager, and a licensed professional engineer (civil) and general contractor in California.
