July 16, 2015

Herbert Els has been appointed national leader of the building technology systems (BTS) group at WSP.

In his new position, Els will manage delivery of IT design services for clients nationwide. WSP’s BTS group provides integrated technology design for smart buildings, including telecommunications systems, audio visual and acoustical, electronic safety and security systems, emergency communications including DAS, and network systems (WAN/LAN/WiFi/VOIP).

A WSP vice president, Els has managed the San Francisco office BTS team since joining the firm in 2012. He has 15 years of experience in the design and implementation of a wide range of technology systems and has conducted research into emerging trends, enabling his teams to introduce new concepts to meet clients’ evolving technology needs. He has designed technology systems for transit facilities, commercial buildings, educational and government facilities, hospitals, laboratories, museums and cultural facilities, and high rise residential complexes.

“Herbert not only helps clients implement technology solutions that satisfy their current needs, he also helps them anticipate and accommodate future trends and requirements,” said David Cooper, president of WSP’s U.S. buildings practice and the region’s chief commercial officer. “Whether it be a converged communications platform between all intelligent building systems or a location aware beacon network to help occupants interface with the facility they are in, Herbert’s leadership has ensured our clients realize great value from their investment in building technology.”
