Matthew Shelden has been named a senior planning manager in the Seattle office of Parsons Brinckerhoff.
In his new position, Shelden will be involved in a variety of transit and transportation projects in the west, serving as a project manager, senior transit planner and policy analyst.
Shelden has 26 years of experience in transit and transportation planning, project management and policy analysis, and has served a variety of functions at public transit agencies in the Seattle area. He comes to Parsons Brinckerhoff from Sound Transit, where he served as system planning manager for the agency and directed development of the $1.5 billion Lynnwood Link light rail extension project. From 2002 to 2004, he directed the strategic planning group at Community Transit in Snohomish County, initiating development of the agency’s first Swift bus rapid transit (BRT) line and drafting a system development plan. From 1994 to 2002, he planned bus and BRT service and managed special projects for King County Metro Transit, including development of joint bus-rail tunnel operations.
Shelden received a master of urban planning degree from the University of Washington and a bachelor of science in environmental planning from Rutgers University. He is a graduate of the American Public Transportation Association’s Leadership APTA program, and has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners since 1994.
