Washoe County Travel Survey Scheduled

June 8, 2015

The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County (RTC) will be conducting a Household Travel Survey in late summer, however, a pilot test for this survey begins this month with travel data being collected from June 16 through July 2. In the pilot study, as well as the formal survey, a statistically valid sample will be interviewed about their daily travel patterns. The interviews will utilize multiple types of data collection, ranging from daily written logs (or diaries) to GPS units and cell phone applications. Information collected will be confidential and analyzed as a whole, not ultimately linked to a specific name. Additionally, the data will be used solely for transportation planning purposes throughout the Truckee Meadows.

“We sincerely appreciate the participation of Washoe County residents as we could not effectively gather this data without them,” said Amy Cummings, RTC director of planning, overseeing the study. “The information we collect is key to ongoing transportation planning efforts and programs,” she said.

In addition to the Household Travel Survey, the RTC also will be conducting an Onboard Travel Survey on RTC transit services and a Visitors Travel Survey. All surveys are being conducted by NuStats Research Solutions, an independent, accredited survey research company.
