As Southern Nevada prepares to celebrate Memorial Day, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) Board of Commissioners approved the Veterans Reduced Fare Program May 21, which allows veterans throughout Southern Nevada to purchase discounted transit passes. The program provides a 50 percent discount on full-fare pricing for all RTC Transit fixed routes, enhancing access to public transportation valley-wide and encouraging usage among the region’s veterans.
“The RTC Board is excited to offer the Veterans Reduced Fare Program to the veteran community,” said Clark County Commissioner and RTC Board Member Chris Giunchigliani. “We are appreciative of the service veterans have given to our nation and this program will assist with their daily commutes, and improve their quality of life.”
To participate in the Veterans Reduced Fare Program, all eligible local veterans can apply for a RTC issued ID card to be shown when purchasing reduced fare transit passes and swiped through the farebox when boarding. The discounted passes will allow veterans to purchase a single ride for $1, 2-Hour pass for $1.50, 24-Hour pass for $2.50, 15-Day pass for $17 and 30-Day pass for $32.50 on the fixed route transit system.
"I applaud the RTC for responding to the transportation needs of veterans raised during our joint roundtable held in February," said Congresswoman Dina Titus, member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs. "I'm proud to partner with the RTC in introducing and promoting this program to enhance access to affordable and reliable transportation for veterans. The combination of improved transit access and reduced fares will benefit thousands of our local heroes."
Interested veterans can apply for the RTC Veterans ID card at the Bonneville Transit Center (BTC) on 101 E. Bonneville Avenue, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days per week, beginning May 26.
In addition to applying at the BTC, RTC staff will be at various locations across the valley to provide more information and process ID cards for the Veterans Reduced Fare Program.
