The RTC is teaming up with the city of Reno and Washoe County Senior Services to help seniors in need in the community. May 18 through May 29, members of the public are encouraged to drop off items for seniors at several public locations and at the locations of sponsors throughout the area. Donation barrels will be collected by a RTC bus, with the goal of filling it with items.
“The drive provides seniors with critical, basic items that, sadly, sometimes can be unaffordable,” RTC Board Chair Neoma Jardon said.
“There are many drives that take place around the holidays, but the need in the community is year-round, that’s why Stuff-A-Bus for Seniors is so important,” RTC Executive Director Lee Gibson said.
Some of the requested items include: slippers, lightweight sweaters, jackets and men’s/women’s pajamas, bathroom towels and washcloths, small air circulation fans, adult diapers, grocery and pharmacy gift cards and transit passes.
The drive takes place during Older Americans Month and the drive will conclude with an event at the Aces Ballpark on May 29 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. That evening, a RTC bus will be at the ballpark for people to stuff full of donations. Everyone who donates at the May 29 event will receive a buy one ticket, get one free deal for one of three Aces games on June 1-3.
