First Transit Awarded SamTrans New Redi-Wheels Service Contract

First Transit Inc. announced that the company has been awarded the new Red-Wheels paratransit contract by the San Mateo County Transit District Board of Directors. Redi-Wheels provides paratransit services to those customers with disabilities that prevent them from independently using the SamTrans bus service. The contract, which begins in January, has a five-year base and includes five one-year options.

First Transit Senior Vice President Nick Promponas states, “As an organization, First Transit is very experienced in and sensitive to the needs of individuals who require paratransit services. We are pleased to bring this experience and expertise to the San Mateo community and are fully committed to providing the highest of service standards.”

Promponas also offered assurance that First Transit remains committed to recognizing Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) 1574 as the bargaining unit for the employees who work on the Redi-Wheels contract and to retaining all qualified employees who have been working under the previous contract who wish to continue providing services to Redi-Wheels customers.
