Mary Shaffer joined Broward County Transit as its communications leader. Shaffer comes to BCT from the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) where she led public relations efforts since 2010. She has more than 20 years of diverse experience in marketing, communications, the media and public relations in both the private and public sectors. She now leads a 35-person section of Communications, Marketing and Customer Service and replaces Phyllis Berry who retired from BCT in 2013.
“Mary is an outstanding professional with significant experience in communications and marketing of public transit systems,” says Division Director Tim Garling. “She will play an important leadership role at BCT in developing strategic programs.”
Oscar Figueroa comes to BCT from the Bi-State Development Agency in St. Louis (Metro) where he served as manager of Safety and Loss Control since 2002 and has more than 20 years of experience in the safety industry.
“We are pleased to be adding the skills and leadership abilities Oscar brings to the agency as we continue our focus on system safety and security,” said Division Director Tim Garling. “His experience with bus will help us in our existing services and rail experience will be vital as we begin the Wave Streetcar in the future.”
