Local veterans who need to access the new Veterans Administration (VA) Clinic by city bus can do so beginning Aug.18.
Route 2, which currently operates between the Downtown Terminal and the El Paso County Citizens Service Center on Garden of the Gods Road, will directly serve the new VA Clinic via a sheltered bus stop west of the Clinic’s main entrance.
“The new clinic is a great asset to our community, and with direct bus service to the site that asset is enhanced,” said Brian Vitulli, planning supervisor at Mountain Metro Transit (MMT). “Route 2 will provide customers, employees, and family members visiting the clinic with a convenient and reliable form of travel.”
Although the extended hours and addition of Saturday service for Route 2 will not go into effect until Monday, September 15, 2014, offering immediate access to the new VA Clinic was a part of initial plans for Route 2.
“When Route 2 was being developed, MMT planners knew that the expected opening of the VA Clinic would be prior to the Fall 2014 service change date in September, so they built extra time into the schedule to accommodate the route deviation beginning on August 18,” Vitulli said.
