Capital Metro has announced that Williamson County resident, Juli Word, has been selected by the Williamson County Commissioners Court to serve on the transit agency’s board of directors. Word is scheduled to be sworn in at the July 28 board meeting.
The Williamson County Commissioners Court was charged with filling the board position that will be vacated by Norm Chafetz, who has served on the board since 2010.
Word has more than 21 years of experience in the financial field, and currently serves as the business services coordinator for the Austin district at the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). In her current role, she is responsible for daily business operations, including developing, analyzing and managing the district’s budget; reviewing and processing accounts receivable and accounts payable; and managing inventory and assets.
Prior to this position, Word worked as a TxDOT budget analyst from 2012 to 2013, and in other accounting and auditing positions there from 2001 to 2010.
Earlier in her career, Word was the cash manager at Broadwing Communications in Austin, where she oversaw the monthly reconciliation of 12 large corporate accounts; assisted with monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reporting; and oversaw a high volume of accounts payable and receivable transactions.
She began her career in the banking industry, where she worked for nine years.
Word has a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in accounting from St. Edward’s University.
“Juli will be a strong asset to the board,” said Capital Metro President/CEO Linda S. Watson. “We operate with great attention to financial transparency and accountability, and Juli’s proven abilities in financial management will support the Capital Metro board in continuing to achieve these important goals.”
