In an effort to provide effective bus service in Northwest Arkansas, Ozark Regional Transit (ORT) is taking steps to grow the region’s public transit system while planning for future growth.
The time has come to create a system of naming each new route with a designation relative to pre-existing route designations, and with a common theme.
All ORT fixed routes will be named/renamed relative to the zip codes of the cities in which they serve. For example: Springdale’s zip codes end with the last two digits being 62, 64, 65 and 66. Therefore, the current routes predominately serving Springdale, will be named/renamed 61, 62, 63 and 64.
Fayetteville’s zip codes typically end in the range 01-04, therefore Fayetteville predominant routes will be renamed to Routes 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Rogers and Bentonville are named/will be renamed in the 50’s range and teen’s range, respectively.
Express routes will be named with three digits and will be based on the highway or interstate that they predominately travel. For example: Route 54 is the express route from the University of Arkansas to NWACC in Bentonville and it predominately travels the I-49 Corridor. This route will be renamed Route 490.
ORT will be adding a second express route on June 2, that will connect the cities of Farmingtion, Fayetteville, Greenland, Lincoln, Prairie Grove and West Fork primarily on Highway 62. Therefore, this new route will be named Route 620.
