Elyria will become home to two new stops as part of the statewide GoBus transportation system, according to Lorain County commissioners.

Beginning March 2, the two new stops in Elyria will be at the Lorain County Transportation and Community Center, 40 East Ave.

GoBus will head eastbound from 11:53 a.m. to 12:18 p.m. and westbound from 11:51 a.m. to 12:16 p.m.

The new Elyria stop is one piece of a larger statewide GoBus expansion launching in 2026 and strengthens Lorain County’s connection to Ohio’s growing intercity transportation network.

“Expanding access to reliable transportation strengthens our workforce, supports our students, and improves the quality of life for our residents,” said Commissioner Dave Moore in a news release. “The addition of a GoBus stop in Elyria enhances Lorain County’s connectivity to destinations across Ohio and provides an affordable travel option for those who need it most.”

GoBus offers safe, dependable and accessible service 365 days a year with distance-based fares designed to remain affordable.

Launched in November 2010, GoBus provides transportation connections for rural communities across the state, linking them to major urban centers and other transportation services.

GoBus is funded by the Federal Transit Administration and in-kind match donations.

GoBus services include five routes connecting more than 60 stops across the state.

More than 50 percent of GoBus riders are college students, according to the release.

The Rural Intercity Bus Program program is designed to address the intercity bus transportation needs of the entire state by supporting projects like GoBus that provide transportation between non-urbanized areas and urbanized areas which result in connections of greater regional, statewide and national significance, according to the GoBus website.

GoBus achieves this goal by coordinating with Greyhound Lines, Barons Bus Lines, John Glenn Columbus International Airport and other national and local transportation services, the website stated.

To provide the best public transportation experience in Ohio, GoBus provides passengers with first-class amenities and accessibility to those with disabilities on the 50-passenger motor coaches, while keeping fares affordable by using a mileage-based fare structure.

“We strive to provide safe, reliable and affordable transportation to all,” the website stated.

The buses include access to Wi-Fi, power outlets in addition to comfortable seating.

The service provides convenient travel options for residents commuting to work, attending classes, traveling to medical appointments or visiting family and friends, the release stated.

Tickets for GoBus transportation can be purchased online at www.ridegobus.com or by calling 888-95-GOBUS.

Prices are dependent upon the trip from the Lorain County Transportation and Community Center.
