NS: Halifax Transit Users Facing Backlash Over New Low-Income Bus Passes

Some people on income assistance are finding that a new program providing free bus passes is bringing stigma along for the ride.

A pilot program to provide free bus passes to some people on income assistance is a joint initiative between the province’s Department of Community Services and Halifax Transit.

About 3,000 Halifax residents recently received the annual bus passes.

Unlike monthly Halifax Transit passes, the annual bus passes for income assistance clients feature a photo ID and some riders say they are getting questioned on why they're on assistance or why they don't get a better job.
