After a second round of public meetings on Port Authority’s proposed Bus Rapid Transit system — and what changes it might have for local service — the agency will spend the next three months refining the project before it is resubmitted for federal funding.

The authority finished more than a half dozen followup meetings last week on the $195.5 million system that will put electric buses on exclusive traffic lanes between downtown and Oakland. The system is designed to improve service between the two major job centers, reduce air pollution and rebuild the streets from sidewalk to sidewalk in the Uptown neighborhood between them.

But suburban riders protested last year when they found out they would be collateral damage.
