A close vote last week scuttled a proposal to study free city bus rides for school-age children, but the Eau Claire councilman behind the effort got new encouragement to push forward.
The city Transit Commission discussed Councilman Jeremy Gragert’s idea Wednesday evening, and while they didn’t take a formal vote, several members gave their support.
Among the issues that coalition would need to address is how to make up for the fare money the city would lose if kids ride for free. The city has budgeted about $44,000 in revenue from K-12 student bus fares and passes.
