Sarasota County Area Transit and Manatee County Area Transit are researching options for possibly merging and privatizing their bus services.
During a joint meeting Wednesday, both commissions discussed the pros and cons of having a private entity manage their transit operations either separately or together.
MCAT and SCAT routes already share passengers and cross county lines, such as the U.S. 41 route linking the downtowns of Bradenton and Sarasota. SCAT already contracts with a private provider for its service for the disabled and three trolleys.
