Escambia County's negotiations with the public transit workers' union have been put on hold as the union's certification to represent the workers with the state has lapsed, but the County Commission voted Thursday morning to approve the current union representing the workers.

The commission's vote will allow the union to recertify with the state without being required to have an election by the transit workers.

The County Commission made the vote during its first meeting Thursday sitting as the newly formed Escambia County Area Transit Authority to oversee the operations of ECAT.
