Twenty-four “well-used” Transit Windsor buses, some with three decades and 1 million kilometres of service, are likely bound for the scrapyard.
They’re being replaced with 24 brand-new low-floor buses thanks to recent $10.3-million government funding that will make the 112-bus Transit Windsor fleet: younger, with the average age dropping from 12.25 years to eight; cleaner, with diesel-spewing buses replaced by clean-diesel buses that are better for the environment; 100 per cent accessible, as the two remaining non-accessible buses are put out of commission; and less costly to operate due to fewer breakdowns. They’re also sparkling new, with that new-car smell.
A dozen of the 24 have already arrived, though none are yet in regular service.
