Extending Charlotte's transit options throughout the region has been a painfully slow process, but the city is making big gains in terms of the accessibility of jobs by transit, according to a study by the University of Minnesota's Accessibility Observatory. That analysis says the Queen City saw a roughly 11% increase in job accessibility via transit, ranking second-highest among the nation's largest cities by that measure. However, the overall accessibility is still lacking, with Charlotte ranking 36th out of 50.

The study looks at the number of jobs available and where they are located, the availability of transit service, and population size, density, and location. Better coordination of transit service with the location of jobs and housing will improve job accessibility by transit, it says.
