The Wiregrass Transit Authority is in the initial stages of plans to transport more people by setting up designated pick up and drop off points.
Darrell Rigsby, transit director for the Authority, said the system is currently set up for demand response, where riders schedule a pick up and drop off in advance and then receive “curb to curb” service. What the Authority is looking into doing is working with entities like public housing, senior living facilities, and employers for scheduled pickups from a specific location at a set time with an end destination, such as Wal-Mart, along with a return trip later.
“Basically we’re looking at ways to transport more people with the same amount of resources,” Rigsby said.
