Moovit and Waze Carpool join forces to upgrade everyday carpooling

Moovit and Waze Carpool have partnered to create a pilot program to empower commuters to ride together.

Moovit and Waze Carpool have partnered to create a pilot program to empower commuters in U.S., Brazil, Mexico and Israel to ride together for an affordable way to commute.

Moovit is tapping into Waze’s carpool driver community to offer users new mobility solutions. The pilot started its gradual rollout Oct. 30 to Android users in the U.S., Brazil, Mexico and Israel. Moovit says the pilot is driven by commuters, for commuters. Once matched with a Waze Carpool driver, Moovit says its users will be able to experience an affordable, convenient and enjoyable commute - with the first ride free for new riders.

Here’s how it works:

  • Plan the trip: Just like planning any trip on Moovit, users input their starting point and destination, as well as the time they would like to leave.

  • Find a Waze driver: In the Suggested Routes screen, Moovit will display any Waze Carpool drivers matching that route at that time.

  • Request a ride: Once Moovit users tap on the drive details they will be directed to the Waze Carpool app where they can request to join the ride and get notified when the carpool is confirmed.

  • Get ready to carpool: As the carpool begins, users can follow the driver’s progress to the pickup location using the Waze Carpool app.

  • Reach your destination: Users can enjoy sharing the road and the costs to get to their destination.

“As we continue to strive to empower people everywhere to get around with peace of mind, Moovit is constantly offering new mobility solutions for its users,” said Nir Erez, Co-founder and CEO of Moovit. “That’s why we are very proud to partner with Waze and launch this joint pilot program to offer an alternative to their regular commute via everyday carpooling. This is the first community collaboration of its kind and it’s all steered by commuters, for commuters.”

Moovit has more than 500 million users and its free urban mobility iOS, Android and web app provides full multi-modal transit options in 3,000 cities, 93 countries and in 45 languages. An iOS rollout is to follow.

“We’re excited to launch our pilot with Moovit and expand the Waze Carpool community,” said Aron Di Castro, Waze director of business development & partnerships. "Thanks to this partnership, Waze Carpool drivers will be able to connect with even more riders headed their way via the Moovit app, empowering more commuters to enjoy affordable and convenient carpools. By riding together, we can all take cars off the road and help decrease traffic and congestion for everyone."
