In commemoration of Bike Month, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will offer free rides to bicyclists on Bike to Work Day Thursday, May 16.

Riders who bring their bike or helmet can claim their free ride on any Metro bus or rail line that day. At non-gated Metro Rail stations, there is no need for bicyclists to tap their fare cards. They just need to show the Metro fare officer their bike or helmet for entry. At gated rail stations, bicyclists should use the intercom located near the fare gates to notify an attendant, who will then open the ADA gates for them.

Metro is also supporting more than 50 bicycle pit stops with local organizations on Bike to Work Day across Los Angeles County. Bicyclists are invited to stop by for refreshments and free giveaways.

Metro will host its own pit stop at the Metro Bike Hub at Union Station at 800 N. Alameda Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.  Located behind to the north breezeway of Union Station West, the bike hub pit stop will be available to Downtown L.A. area bicyclists from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 16. The Metro Bike Hub at Union Station offers secure bicycle parking, sales and service and is operated by jointly by BikeHub and the Bike Center Los Angeles.

The National Bike to Work Day celebration is on Friday, May 17.  However, Metro and many other transportation agencies throughout Los Angeles county traditionally mark the Thursday before (May 16) with free rides on public transit. Other agencies offering free transit rides that day include Antelope Valley Transit Authority, Beach Cities Transit, Culver City Bus, City of Gardena Bus, LADOT, Big Blue Bus and Pasadena Transit.

Combining your bicycle trip with Metro Bus and Rail is easy.  All Metro buses are equipped with front bike racks.  Bikes may also be taken on Metro trains during all system hours. Follow the signs to the designated area of the train and stand with your bike.
