The California Transportation Commission approved allocation of a state grant that will allow Caltrain to operate a zero-emission train on both its electrified and non-electrified rail corridor
The project remains on schedule and on budget, with a target completion date expected in late 2027.
The new EV will be replacing a diesel-powered bus to provide additional connectivity beyond the morning and evening train service between Seattle and Bellingham.
The authority selected HDR to conduct Phase 1 of a two-phase study looking at ways to protect the coastal rail line between Dana Point and San Clemente, Calif.
The 153-year-old incline, which sees 1,000 riders every weekday and 4,500 riders on weekends, will remain closed until engineers determine a way to allow condensation to dissipate more efficiently.
