MARTA has partnered with INIT for AFC 2.0, a cloud-based smart ticketing system featuring contactless payments across bus, train, and streetcars. The new “tap and go” service would allow users to pay fares directly with debit cards, credit cards, or mobile wallets, bypassing vending machines for a faster, more intuitive process.

The pilot will test if requiring people to tap out of the rail system would help confirm that valid fare was paid.
The MTA is utilizing OMNY as its contactless fare payment system to give subway and bus customers a simpler way to pay for their fares using credit or debit card, smartphone, wearable device or OMNY card to tap and go.
