The plan includes anticipated service benefits for the Electrification Project slated for completion by fall 2024 that will feature faster trains, less wait time at stations and a simplified schedule.
The cost of the project has risen from $9.3 billion to $12.2 billion; Santa Clara VTA is still able to fund the project but the project opening has been pushed back from 2033 to 2036.
Total ridership passing through WMATA’s six new Silver Line stations is now more than three million.
Amtrak OIG identified a lack of a validated computer model to support trainset testing and an incomplete schedule of addressing vehicle defects as two reasons for the delays of the program.
SFRTA was among the first grant award winners of FTA’s Rail Vehicle Replacement Program and, along with new locomotives and rail cars, the agency hopes the fleet will bring greater reliability and enhanced amenities.
The majority of the grant, $12.4 million, will go towards RTA’s Rail Car Replacement Program, and $200,000 will go to electrical vehicle planning.
WMATA will operate service every six to 12 minutes from end-of-line-stations to all customers while Blue and Yellow line trains will depart every 15 minutes while crews replace components of the damaged tracks.
Compared to fossil diesel, renewable diesel significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 631 percent throughout its lifecycle, providing a steep increase to the sustainability of rail travel in southern California.
