The 2.4-mile Hilltop extension doubles the length of the T Line and includes seven new stations.
The funding will keep project work going through 2024, establishes a governance process for the project and identifies responsibilities between Hennepin County and the Metropolitan Council.
The agency has issued a Request for Proposals to three contracting teams pre-selected by CTA earlier in 2023.
The service was originally supposed to launch Sept. 1 but delays to train testing and caution over Hurricane Idalia’s impact on the Florida region pushed back the opening three weeks.
The project will allow WMATA to perform critical safety repairs to the tunnel and track infrastructure, upgrade signal and communications systems and install new platform edge lights.
The project has helped to relieve congestion, develop communities and improve the quality of life for people in the community.
The award to Clark Construction/Stacy and Witbeck Joint Venture follows a year long competitive procurement that began in June 2022.
The study is funded by the FTA and will identify the preferred Atlanta BeltLine transit alignment and station locations in the northwest quadrant.
