The program is designed to introduce participants to everyday community settings and develop important functional skills. DRT representatives facilitated a session to help participants learn more about how to use DRT public transit services. After the session, DRT received a letter the session resulted in 100 percent of participants feeling confident in their ability to take the bus safely, plan a bus route, take the bus and pay their fare.

“The Region of Durham values DRT’s collaboration with our community and organizations, supporting residents as they build their confidence in using public transit. The region is committed to advancing public transit, so community members and visitors can rely on DRT to travel wherever they live, work or play,” said John Henry, regional chair and CEO.

“Access to frequent and reliable transit service is essential to our vision of a healthy, prosperous community for all. DRT’s 10-year service and financial strategy will support residents to conveniently travel within their community or across the region using public transit,” said Marilyn Crawford, regional councilor for the town of Ajax and chair of the TEC for Durham Regional Council

“Today was the first step towards an even brighter future for public transit in Durham. Building on past successes and a commitment to equity and excellence, DRT employees look forward to opportunities for significantly advancing public transit across the Region,” said Bill Holmes, general Manager, DRT.
