Motor Coach Industries (MCI)

Motor Coach Industries (MCI) is the largest manufacturer and marketer of intercity coaches in North America. Reliability driven, MCI builds expertly engineered, best-selling models for the charter, line-haul, scheduled service, commuter express and transit markets. MCI makes the industry’s best-selling J4500 coach and the popular D-Series coaches renowned for their low operating cost and workhorse dependability. MCI is also the only builder of a three-axle Commuter Coach model that is Altoona tested, Buy America compliant and offered in clean-diesel, hybrid and CNG configurations. MCI coaches are built in ISO 9001-certified production facilities in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Pembina, North Dakota. 

MCI now markets and provides service support for both the Setra S 407 and Setra S 417 coach models as well, having acquired distribution rights from Daimler Bus. 

MCI began manufacturing coaches in 1933, when founder Harry Zoltok produced his first coach in a small shop in Winnipeg. Today, MCI coaches account from some 50 percent of the roughly 40,000 motor coaches on the roads in the U.S. and Canada. 

MCI and Setra models represent one of the best environmental ideas on the road — fuel-efficient, comfortable transportation, equipped with current engine technologies for near-zero emissions. 

Standard on all MCI models are Electronic Stability Control (ESC), which assists the driver in critical situations; a tire-pressure monitoring system that warns the driver of low pressure, high tire temperatures or tire failure; and a fire suppression system. Options include three-point passenger seatbelts, wheelchair lifts, GPS and video surveillance systems to give drivers full visibility for extra safety. All MCI models also offer the option of Wi-Fi connectivity and 110-volt outlets as passenger amenities. 

Setra models are known for their German engineering and distinctive European styling, with BlueTec® engine technology and advanced safety features such as Front Collision Guard, Active Brake Assist and Lane Change Assistant. 

MCI also offers a Pre-owned Plus program that features fully inspected MCI pre-owned coaches with warranties and maintenance options. 

MCI supports its models with the industry’s most extensive aftermarket parts supply, stocking more than 100,000 parts at its 365,000-square-foot distribution facility in Louisville, Ky.; and provides  hands-on field support, 24/7 roadside assistance, technical expertise and technician training. MCI also operates six sales centers and seven service centers in the U.S. and Canada.
