This cast of MTtv takes a closer look at the bus maintenance component of the American Public Transportation Association's International Bus Roadeo.
The International Bus Roadeo is a unique learning opportunity for operators and maintenance teams to engage with other transit agency professionals up close and personal. The Roadeo is more than a competition of driving skills and maintenance disciplines; it is a training and networking opportunity for all attendees.
Maintenance teams normally consist of three maintenance employees.
The maintenance competition events include a written test on Saturday and then hands-on events Sunday: Fraser Gauge Vehicle Inspection, Allison Transmission/Cummins/EMP Piower Train Event, AxleTec/Bendix Air Brake System (ABS) Event, Cummins/Voith Power Train Event, Thermo King HVAC IntelligAIRE Event, MCI Multiplex Moduole and the Vapor Door Systems Exhibition Event.
The written test consists of 50 questions using the ASE format with questions split between general knowledge, engine, HVAC, brakes, electrical and transmission.
For each of the hands-on tests, there are numerous defects and the team has between 7 and 10 minutes to complete the test, depending on the station.
Congratulations to Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, the Grand Champion Award winner at the 38th International Bus Roadeo.
