The city of Portland, Maine, announced the launch of PassportParking, a mobile parking application that allows drivers to pay for their parking through their smartphones. The app is powered by Passport.

This is the first time Portland will have a mobile parking application provider. Drivers can pay for parking in more than 1,600 metered-spaces with the PassportParking app. In addition to paying for parking, drivers can monitor their parking sessions, view payment history and receive email receipts. Drivers can also extend parking time on the app.

“We wanted to provide a convenient solution to our Portland drivers,” said John Peverada, Portland parking manager. “With the PassportParking app, our drivers can pay for parking from anywhere, when they’re on the go.”

Passport also powers Portland’s enforcement solution, enabling the city to now have a comprehensive parking management platform with a powerful backend portal for real-time reporting and analytics. The PassportParking app is widely used throughout the New England area in places such as Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the greater Boston area. The company also powers the ParkBoston app for the city of Boston. The company will soon launch its PassportParking app in Burlington, Vermont, with 400 off-street parking spaces.

“Whether you’re a resident or a visitor in Portland the app will provide easy access to pay for parking,” said Passport Regional Sales Director Conor Kelly. “You can enjoy a stroll along Commercial Street, visit the the Children’s Museum or dine at one of the city’s great downtown restaurants knowing you can extend your parking time through your smartphone, when needed.”
