A recent Gartner Report evaluated Esri geodesign tools and noted that "Esri's new GeoPlanner and updated CityEngine further its aim of reaching land-use planners who are casual or expert users of GIS software."
"Both GeoPlanner for ArcGIS and CityEngine support geodesign, a decision support framework that infuses planning with geographic context to create safe, vibrant, sustainable communities," said Shannon McElvaney, Esri's community development industry manager. "Users at all levels can use this approach and the Esri platform to evaluate and visualize planning scenarios and make informed decisions."
GeoPlanner for ArcGIS is a web app for land-based planning that incorporates each aspect of a complete planning workflow including project creation, data identification, comparative analysis, and reporting. Esri CityEngine lets people create realistic 3D models from their 2D data and then conduct spatial analysis that generates rich insights into the impact of development.
