The upgrade includes the latest version of Vontas’ CAD/AVL software, improved reporting capabilities, Generation 8 Integrated Vehicle Logic Units (V8 IVLU), color touch Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs), and a new cellular-based network.

Vontas announced it is continuing its partnership with Fresno Area Express (FAX) to upgrade its Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). This upgrade includes the latest version of Vontas’ CAD/AVL software, improved reporting capabilities, Generation 8 Integrated Vehicle Logic Units (V8 IVLU), color touch Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs), and a new cellular-based network.

“We look forward to bringing these innovative technology changes to FAX in order to provide a faster, more convenient, and more reliable service to their customers,” said Ed Baldzicki, vice president, sales, Vontas. “With these updates, FAX can make informed decisions with real-time data connections between vehicles, operators, and the back office to keep operations on track whether it's business as usual or not.”

By upgrading their CAD/AVL software, FAX gains enhanced detour management and route tracking, device management, an improved dispatch and supervisor user experience with text-to-speech and turn-by-turn directions, and much more. By using ViewPoint for reporting, FAX can better understand their data by collecting and consolidating fleet data in one place and act quickly to improve service and elevate the rider experience.

The new cellular-based network provides a software-based communications system that ensures a constant flow of information, whether in the control center or on the road.

“Each vehicle’s new V8 IVLU unit seamlessly connects multiple vehicle systems to enhance real-time data and communications capabilities using the cellular network,” Baldzicki said. “The solution will integrate new color touch MDTs and all other on-board systems in each vehicle.”

“We are pleased with Vontas, and the project team’s work to help us bring forward this system upgrade that allows us to better serve our bus operators and customers,” said Gregory Barfield, assistant city manager and interim director of FAX.

“The agility of this system allows FAX to adopt the latest advancements that drive public engagement and rider satisfaction, so we can be on the forefront of change,” said Sandy Cetti, capital development specialist, FAX. “This upgraded solution connects our operations with our passengers through the integration of on-board and back-office solutions, keeping them up to date and informed during their ride.”
