New convenient payment options come for RTC Southern Nevada riders

March 17, 2022
RTC has introduced several Masabi ticketing technology upgrades including web-based payment portals, upgraded fare validators and cash to mobile payments via retail partners.

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada has recently expanded its Masabi-provided payment options, added two new web-based payment portals and upgraded fixed-route Justride validators, which are capable of processing contactless EMV (cEMV) payments.

This means that, in the future, riders will be able to board and tap a validator with their payment card and will be charged the best possible price for their journey.

The RTC has also expanded its cash to mobile partnerships to offer more than 350 locations throughout the Las Vegas valley area where mobile bus passes can be purchased using cash. These include major retailers, creating more access to ticketing for RTC riders across all platforms.

“With the implementation of these new services, upgrades and partnerships to expand payment options, the RTC continues to improve overall service operations to make transit more accessible and convenient for our customers,” said RTC CEO MJ Maynard. “This is critical in our ongoing mission to reach as many people as we can with equitable transportation options.”

rideRTC Web Portal

The rideRTC Web Portal helps customers manage and track their rideRTC mobile app from their computer. Now customers can plan their trips and purchase transit passes in advance while on the go using their smartphones or at home on their desktops or laptop computers.

Paratransit Payment Web Portal

The new Paratransit Payment Web Portal allows customers to purchase their passes online and create an account where they can set up recurring payments and track their payment history. As an added benefit of the new purchasing system, paratransit customers’ accounts are updated the same day as their purchase, giving customers immediate access to transit passes and eliminating the three- to five-day wait following their purchase.

Cash to mobile partnerships

Retailers, including Dollar General, Family Dollar, 7-Eleven, CVS Pharmacy and Walgreens, are signed on to offer RTC customers more locations where they can take advantage of the cash to mobile payment option. This payment option allows customers to purchase bus passes with cash at more than 350 locations valley-wide, and then have the fare loaded to their RTC smartphone app, rideRTC.

Upgraded fare validators

Thanks to federal funding, the new contactless Europay, MasterCard and Visa (cEMV)-capable on-board Justride validators from Masabi have been installed on all fixed route RTC transit buses, located closer to the fare box for better accessibility and convenience. These validators will be a key component in the RTC’s work to add reloadable tap cards and build for future contactless payment options.
