New Scheidt  & Bachmann Fare Gates Launched in Ottawa

Nov. 30, 2017
OC Transpo, the public transit service provider in Ottawa, Canada, launched new fare gates and ticket machines, supplied by Scheidt & Bachmann.

OC Transpo, the public transit service provider in Ottawa, Canada, launched new fare gates and ticket machines, supplied by Scheidt & Bachmann, at four O-Train Trillium Line train stations. The launch was part of OC Transpo’s customer testing phase which allows customers a chance to get to know the new fare gates and ticket machines in a real-life, high traffic environment.

To pass through the new fare gates, passengers simply tap their smartcard — which include Presto, U-Pass and Société de transport de l'Outaouais Multi cards — or scan their bus transfer or machine readable ticket on the fare gate. When exiting the station, the gate opens automatically. New ticket machines allow customers to check their Presto balance and easily buy a single-ride fare, a DayPass or load their Presto Cards, using cash, debit and credit cards.

OC Transpo also contracted Scheidt & Bachmann to provide a new fare system for the O-Train Confederation Line that will bring modern light rail transit service to Ottawa in 2018. The systems provider will deliver fare gates and ticket machines and provide all services such as cash collection, credit card processing, operations, monitoring, and maintenance. The future O-Train Confederation Line fare gates and ticket machines will be identical to those currently being used on the O-Train Trillium Line.
