The Regional Transit Service (RTS) Transit Center opened on November 28, 2014 and transformed public transportation for our customers and the community. RTS is celebrating the two year anniversary by thanking customers and employees for making the Transit Center the safe, comfortable, technology-rich facility that helps customers enjoy the ride every day.

“When we opened the RTS Transit Center, we knew the facility would be a game-changer, but it was difficult to foresee how much of an impact it would have on our customers, employees and the community,” said RTS CEO Bill Carpenter. “Two years later we have a nationally recognized facility that serves as the hub of our system, a powerful tool of engagement between RTS and our customers, and a model of service for the transit industry. I thank our customers and business partners for their loyalty, the communities we serve for their support, and the entire RTS team for their hard work and dedication. The success of the Transit Center is made possible because of them.”

The following statistics help tell the story of the first two years of the RTS Transit Center:

  • More than 21 million customers have passed through the facility
  • 1.2 million buses have served customers at the Transit Center
  • 30 customer events have been held there, including open houses, information sessions, and visits from local professional sports teams
  • The Transit Center has won a total of 9 awards, including a national award from the American Public Works Association

The RTS Transit Center is recognized as a symbol of positive change that is taking place in downtown Rochester. In the spirit of change, RTS CEO Bill Carpenter was at the Transit Center earlier today and recorded a video to thank customers and employees on the anniversary of the facility, and took the opportunity to preview some of the changes customers will see in 2017.
