DART to upgrade TRE’s onboard message system

Aug. 27, 2020
The new system will provide announcements for TRE customers in both English and Spanish.

The current automated message system on the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) fleet will be replaced following a contract approval by the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Board.

The existing automated system has been in service for more than 20 years and replacement was necessary due to costly repairs, and parts and components becoming obsolete. The new system will provide announcements for TRE customers in both English and Spanish.

The contractor, MacKenzie Laboratories, Inc., of Glendora, Calif., will replace components for public address announcements, intercom communication, passenger service announcements through the interior and exterior speakers and the LED display signs, and emergency communication between passengers and the operator.
