ABB: Technology to Further Sustainable Public Transportation

Oct. 18, 2017
ABB showcased a number of different technologies, aimed at making both rail and bus transport more efficient and sustainable.

ABB featured its latest charging systems for bus terminals, which Daniel Simount, MBA, vice president of transportation sector Americas region, described as an optional solution for e-buses as manufactures begin to move in that direction. “We are really pushing the transit authorities to get to know the product. The idea is that is has a plug and it can charge at the depot.”

ABB is now also offering its rail traction products as Buy America.

“We are very proud to say that this whole traction chain is Buy America. Now when you consider traction, it can all be Buy America.”

ABB’s new traction converter generation is designed to be efficient and versatile. The unit is compatible with diesel-electric multiple units and has recently been utilized by Stradler’s new FLIRT DMU for TEXRail.

“It has liquid cool technology and it is very compact. You want to have the maximum space for the customer,” said Simount.
