The 360 Transit Alliance Joint Venture, which includes Stantec and Jacobs, was awarded a contract by Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx for control services for the province's four priority transit projects in the Greater Toronto Area. These include the new Ontario Line, the Scarborough Subway Extension, the Yonge Street North Subway Extension and the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension – with a total estimated capital value of C$28.5 billion (US$22.08) billion.

“This is one of Canada’s largest and most technically complex programs and we’re pleased that Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx have put their faith in us,” said Senior Principal at Stantec and Lead Program Controls Manager Thomas Baginski. “It is exciting to be able to join IO and Metrolinx in a program that will positively impact millions of people. These four projects, once complete, will be critical connectors for North America’s fastest growing metro region.”

“Increasing access to transit and improving quality of life by reducing daily travel times is important to creating connectivity throughout the Greater Toronto Area,” said Jacobs Vice President and Geographic Operations Manager – Canada, Buildings and Infrastructure Paul Griffiths. “We can help implement the vision for faster and more reliable transit service in all directions across the metro area.”

The new Ontario Line will span nearly 16 kilometers (9.9 miles) and add 15 new stations across the city, from Exhibition Place in the southwest to the Ontario Science Centre in the northeast. The Scarborough Subway Extension will add three stops over 7.8 kilometers (4.85 miles) to bring the Toronto Transit Commission’s existing Line 2 subway service even further into Scarborough. The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension will add seven stops over 9.2 kilometers (5.7 miles) west of the Crosstown’s Mount Dennis Station. The Yonge Street North Subway Extension will also bring the Toronto Transit Commission’s existing Line 1 subway service to the cities of Vaughan, Markham and Richmond Hill.

The Toronto Subways Program is another large-scale transit contract awarded to Stantec. The firm is serving as Technical Advisor on both the Ontario Line and the Hurontario LRT line. Stantec is also serving as lead engineer on the $1.9 billion Long Island Rail Road expansion for the Metropolitan Transit Agency in New York, which will modernize the busiest commuter line in the United States. In Chicago, Stantec is leading the design on the Chicago Transit Authority’s US$2.1 billion Red and Purple Modernization Program. Stantec was also selected to provide infrastructure engineering, procurement, and construction services on Montreal’s Réseau express métropolitain (light-rail network), one of Quebec’s most important public transit projects.
