For the third time, Cincinnati Metro has received the top honor among mid-size transit systems for security excellence from the American Public Transportation Association.
Cincinnati Metro was recognized with a GOLD Award for Security for its new Wi-Fi pilot program during the 2018 APTA Bus & Paratransit Conference in Tampa, FL on May 8. In addition to providing free Wi-Fi access to riders, the program provides an extra level of security as first responders are now able to access live video remotely in the event of an emergency. The pilot currently includes 59 buses and five Access vehicles covering various routes.
The APTA Bus Safety & Security Excellence Awards recognize innovative and proactive safety and security programs conducted by public transportation organizations. Nominations are evaluated on effectiveness, benefit level, innovation and transferability.
