Brookville Equipment Corp. delivered the first vehicle in an order for seven of its off-wire capable Liberty Streetcars to the City of Oklahoma City.

Brookville Equipment Corp. has delivered the first vehicle in an order for seven of its off-wire capable Liberty Streetcars to the City of Oklahoma City, making Oklahoma City the third American city to receive Brookville’s signature U.S. designed and manufactured modern streetcar vehicle since 2015.

The first vehicle will soon undergo on-site testing, along with six additional Liberty Streetcars, which will be shipped to Oklahoma City in the coming weeks and months, ahead of the new streetcar route’s planned revenue service start later in 2018.

The Oklahoma City Liberty Streetcars are being delivered as part of a $33.7 million contract, which includes the design, engineering, and manufacturing of the vehicles, in addition to spare parts, training, and service and warranty support.

The Liberty Streetcars will ultimately operate in downtown Oklahoma City along a 2-mile east-west loop and a 4.9-mile north-south loop as part of the city’s MAPS 3 Modern Streetcar Program.

The Brookville Liberty Streetcars, which are being designed and manufactured at Brookville’s Pennsylvania-based campus, measure 66 ft. long, 8-feet wide, and include 70 percent low-floor area with 100 percent curb-level boarding for passengers. The Oklahoma City Liberty Streetcars offer seating for up to 30 passengers and the capacity to comfortably transport up to 100 passengers. Notably, the Liberty Streetcars feature more than 70 percent American content, meaning they would meet Buy America compliance if the project is awarded Federal funding in the future.

The Liberty Streetcars will be powered by overhead wires on part of Oklahoma City’s routes and will use a lithium-ion battery onboard energy storage system (OESS) for the balance of the routes.

Brookville previously delivered four off-wire capable Liberty Streetcars to Dallas Area Rapid Transit and six vehicles to QLINE Detroit from 2015 through 2017, making the first Oklahoma City Streetcar the eleventh Liberty Streetcar vehicle shipment. In addition to its order of seven vehicles for Oklahoma City, Brookville is currently manufacturing Liberty Streetcars for the city of Milwaukee and in 2017 secured orders for Valley Metro’s Tempe Streetcar and Sound Transit’s Tacoma Link Extension.

The Oklahoma City Streetcar is funded by Oklahoma City’s voter-approved MAPS 3 initiative, which is a $777-million capital improvements program, using a one-cent, limited-term sales tax.
