Skanska has announced it has hired Gordon Childress as executive vice president and general manager for its Northern California building construction business. Childress will be based in the company’s Oakland office and will report to Chief Operating Officer Len Vetrone, who will continue to oversee all of Skanska’s building operations statewide.

In this role, Childress will set the office’s strategic direction and oversee the office’s account management team, which leads customer and stakeholder relationships. Childress has nearly 30 years of experience in the construction industry including 15 years previously with Skanska, where he served as a senior vice president and account manager. More recently, he led large divisions of several well-known contractors in the Bay Area.

“I am thrilled to welcome Gordon home to Skanska,” said Skanska USA Building Chief Operating Officer Len Vetrone. “He pairs a strong portfolio of experience rooted in strong customer relationships with a cultural understanding of Skanska. I believe he will establish Skanska as the Bay Area’s contractor of choice and as one of the most desired places to work in the region.”

A LEED accredited professional, Childress also holds OSHA 30-Hour certification. Childress received his bachelor’s degree in building construction from Texas A&M University and lives in Marin County.
