The Jacksonville Transportation Authority held a groundbreaking ceremony for the JTAMobilityWorks Collins Road project.

Collins Road is JTAMobilityWorks second major roadway construction project. The scope includes widening of the existing two-lane undivided roadway to four lanes between Old Middleburg Road and Rampart Road. The project will also feature curbed medians, bike lanes, a closed drainage system and sidewalks.

The $19.8 million contract was awarded to J.B. Coxwell Contracting in June. Construction is expected to be completed in June 2020.

“We are excited to break ground on the Collins Road project under the JTAMobilityWorks program,” said JTA Chief Executive Officer Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. “This extensive project will improve roadway capacity and traffic conditions on Collins Road and enhance the quality of life for the neighborhood residents.”

In attendance at the ceremony were Jacksonville City Council Members Doyle Carter and Jim Love, JTA Board Chairman Isaiah Rumlin, JTA Board Members Denise Wallace, Ari Jolly and Jeanne Miller and JTA CEO Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. Also in attendance were Teresa Williams-Elam from State Senator Audrey Gibson’s office and Ryan Bass from Congressman John Rutherford’s office.
